For one to be a good power electronics engineer must know lot about lot. Power engineers obviously have conversion circuits and topologies. But, we also basic understanding of semiconductor physics truly understand how our switching devices work make best use them. We deep magnetics devices. all different types capacitor technologies, the characteristics each, where each fits in converter designs. analog digital circuit design create not just controllers but sorts monitoring protection circuitry. fair amount control theory properly controllers. product safety standards practice. EMI unwanted electromagnetic emissions both by mitigation after fact. heat transfer thermal management. I believe that greater breadth depth more technical areas than some other engineering specialties.
